800 years after his life, the words of Isaiah continued to be read in the Jewish synagogues of Jesus's day. It is possible that Jesus would have heard more about what Isaiah had to say than just about any other prophet—his vision of the future would have influenced and shaped Jesus. In fact, Jesus begins his ministry [in Luke] by reading from Isaiah to describe and define his own ministry.
During Advent, we look backward and forward, both to the first and the second coming of Jesus. By concentrating on Isaiah, we encounter a prophet of old looking to the future in hope and anticipation.
Join us beginning November 30 as we start a new Christian year being shaped by “A Prophet’s Vision.”
