Habitat Build #4

What is LEED Certification?

<  back

LEED stands for "Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design." It is a key feature of this project for these reasons:

  1. LEED-Certified buildlings are built in conjunction with green building design and include amenities to facilitate energy efficiency and water conservation.
  2. Materials used in the house construction ensure health benefits for the homebuyer families.
  3. LEED Certification enhances the long-term affordability of the home to homebuyers, as energy efficiency and water conservation contribute to an annual savings of at least $1,000 per unit, which it a 50% reduction in the cost of utilities. This makes an additional $30,000 each homebuyer can potentially save throughout the life of their mortgage. LEED Certification is not only good for the environment but also helps affordable homes remain affordable.
