I really like to use the prayer of examen
This spiritual practice helps me to move on and my me see that things don’t always have to be the same. I feel free. I try to do this practice everyday when I get home from work so I can enjoy my evening.
I feel the most connected to others and the world outside my eyes when I give, help or sacrifice for others. This keeps me in touch with God and people around me. Recently I experienced the opposite which is receiving. I had some unfortunate circumstances over the weekend which allowed me to see Gods provision through others, coming along side me, helping me, sacrificing for me and actually showing real empathy. To give you some context. My truck spontaneously combusted while parked in front of my girlfriends condo, it then caught on fire, started on its own and rolled toward the condo units and caught the building on fire. It actually made the local news paper, Oakland Press. It sounds a little unbelievable and I would have probably been intensely investigated if I did not have Police eye witnesses at the scene. The reason I even tell you this story is because it affected others around me as well. It didn’t just affect me. It affected my girlfriend and the neighbor who just moved in next door. His unit was burned in the fire. It also affected the entire complex and the surrounding community. Some had empathy while others were cynical and thought I did an insurance job which is not possible when you have PLPD liability coverage. The point I am making is adverse circumstance affecting a wide range of people can definitely change your perspective on our worlds as we see them.
