“Grains of Hope” – May 9th
Posted on 04/26/2013

The Mars Hill Refugee Ministry will be sponsoring a free performance of “Grains of Hope” at Wealthy Theatre on May 9th.

“Grains of Hope” is an original theatrical production written and directed by award-winning playwright Stephanie Sandberg of the Theatre Department at Calvin College. Based on interviews with local refugees in West Michigan, it focuses on their experience here as well as their journey to the United States.

Following the free performance, a panel of refugees and leaders from the Mars Hill Refugee Ministry will share how Mars is involved and answer questions from the audience.

We highly encourage people of all ages to attend, but advise parental discrimination for children under 12 as some of the content deals with sensitive matters.

Tickets = FREE

Info Meeting – November 11th
Posted on 11/1/2012

The Mars Hill Refugee Ministry is engaged in helping refugee families adapt to life in GR and attain self-sufficiency after fleeing here from all over the world.  Our goal is to assist 4 new families over the next year, and we need your help.

We have a range of opportunities including hosts, ESL tutors, drivers, medical advisors, school liaisons, and friends for families just moving to the US. No refugee experience is required—we’ll help train and prepare you for a role that fits your skills and passions.

Please join us for a brief informational meeting on November 11th to hear more about what the Refugee Ministry does and how you can be a part of things.  The meeting will take place in room 403 right after each morning Gathering.

Final Refugee Picnic is this Sunday (Aug 19)
Posted on 08/15/2012

Our final picnic of the summer is coming up this Sunday, August 19th.  We’ll be at Veteran’s Park in Kentwood (48th street between division & eastern) from 1 – 4.  We are going to do it “pot-luck” style again.  We will provide the main dish & drinks but if you could bring a side to share, that would be great (but don’t let it keep you from coming if you can’t bring something :-)

New Family Arrival
Posted on 07/1/2012

Welcome to the Tamang family who arrived Friday night & thanks to the large group of volunteers who were there to meet them! We were also able to bring some of their extended family & friends to the airport, so the Tamang’s saw some familiar faces when they got off the plane!
