My Favorite Day
Posted on 06/6/2011

Tuesday is my favorite day of the week. Do you know why? My mentor is coming! When she picks me up from my classroom, we go to the Mentor Room to play, learn, and read. A mentor is one of a kind. No one is like your mentor. My mentor is like a bright star and I’m a dim star. A mentor is going to pull you along and help you be a bright start like I will be someday. I’m glad Kids Hope is here because sometimes we need help with something. A mentor is always there for you no matter what. Especially when you need help making a difficult decision, like I did. My hard decision was to go to a really good school, a smart school called City School, and she helped me decide. Soon, your mentor will become more like family. My mentor, Chrysta is like the big sister I never had.

“Hi Chrysta,” I said, “let’s go booger” Chrysta responds.

The Best Decision I Could Have Made
Posted on 06/6/2011

Being a mentor for Kids Hope is the best decision that I could have made. I have been unable to work for the past five years and at times have been depressed with feeling like I am not important or needed. Being a mentor has given me something to look forward to every week and gives me a reason to get up early every Monday morning.

It is the highlight of my week to pick Sarah up from her classroom and see her sweet smile. We have a lot in common, which made it very easy for us to bond with each other. Sarah and I both enjoy making crafts, playing games, doing puzzles and we both love animals. We have done several crafts together but I think that we enjoyed making beaded bracelets together the best. It has also been very rewarding to see her improvement in reading and math. It has been awesome to see Sarah transform from a quiet shy girl to the happy bubbly girl that she is today.

The Mars Hill Mentorship Program is something that I am proud to be a part of. The students who have the privilege of having a mentor can just be themselves and they always know what it feels like to be accepted and loved unconditionally. I am looking forward to being a mentor in the years to come.

Having A Mentor Is Special To Me
Posted on 06/6/2011

Having a mentor is special to me for several reasons. My first reason is if I’m behind in class, my mentor and I always make it up. I like how my mentor doesn’t just tell me the answers but she explains it more so I can understand it better. My second reason is when I need someone to talk to, I know my mentor is always there for me. When I’m with my mentor she always asks me how I’m doing or if anything is new. My final reason is my mentor and I do fun things in my free time. One of my favorite times with my mentor was going to the movie because I wanted to see that movie and she did too! These three reasons are why having a mentor is special to me.

He who Hesitates….Loses!

I hesitated to sign up for mentoring.  Rob stood up there telling us that the school needed 35 more mentors and that it was the last night for training.  God had been calling me the previous times but…

Different, Yet the Same

I have been a mentor for 5 years now.  The first 3 years were mentoring Robert.  A minority at Burton School, Robert has blue eyes and blond hair and looks like a slightly grubbier version of myself as an elementary school student.
