Bundle Up Burton
Posted on 09/28/2011

Many of the kids at Burton Elementary don’t have warm clothes to bundle up in this winter. Yet, if we pool our resources, we know there can be plenty to go around.

Help Bundle Up Burton this winter by donating new or like-new coats, hats, and mittens:
1. Grab Tag to Get Started. Tags with the different coat sizes and genders needed will be available in the Welcome Center at Mars Hill from October 2-October 23.
2. Collect your new or like-new coat or hat and mitten set in the size detailed on your card.
3. Drop them off in a bin by the Welcome Center by October 23.
4. The Burton Elementary students will be able to “shop” with their families for a coat, hat and mittens during school conferences starting on November 9.

We need a few extra helping hands to organize and deliver the coats to Burton and/or help out at the Burton Boutique on November 9, 15 or 17. If you’d like to volunteer, please contact Sharon Gardner at sgardner@marshill.org or 616.819.1901.

“Be-the-Blessing” Opportunity
Posted on 09/7/2011

A TUESDAY driver is needed for weekly deliveries of sack suppers for Burton elementary students starting Sept. 20, 2011. Pick up time at KFB is approx. 1:00 p.m. and the time commitment is between 1 1/2 to 2 hours each week.  If you are unable to make the full commitment but would still like to participate, we also have a need for a few subs. Please contact Sue at shodson@sbcglobal.net for more information or to sign up for this awesome opportunity to bless hungry little ones at Burton.

Curious what the Mars Hill Mentorship Program is all about? We’ll be discussing what the program is all about, what it takes to be a mentor as well as other volunteer opportunities.

Join us on Sunday, August 21, 2011 after the 9am or 11am gathering in room 509!

The same, yet different
Posted on 07/27/2011

We have spent a large portion of this summer researching best practices for mentoring and looking into ways in which we can better manage our mentoring program and support each match. As a result, there are a few new policies and procedures that returning mentors will need to be aware of before beginning meeting with their students in September. If you’re a returning mentor, be sure to register for training to learn all about what’s the same and what’s different about Mentoring at Burton this year.

Save the Date….In-Service
Posted on 12/18/2010

OK…so visions of sugarplums may be dancing in your heads instead of mentoring, but you’ll want to note the date  for our Mentor/Prayer Partner In-Service as you make your January plans. Save the date….Saturday, January 22 at Fair Haven Ministries in Jenison, Michigan.

This year in an effort to offer you a more in depth insight into mentoring we will be joining with KHUSA Michigan mentors and prayer partners for a day that will be sure to inspire and encourage you in mentoring your Burton student.

We at Mars Hill are so convinced you will find this conference of great value in strengthening your mentoring relationship that we will be covering the registration fee for you.  You will leave having a better understanding of kids living in poverty, how to handle mentoring challenges, ideas for the mentoring hour and so much more!

Register today by emailing Sharon at souellette@marshill.org.

You are invited to Bundle up Burton!

Bundle up Burton! is this Thursday at Burton Elementary. MH Kids have collected numerous items and now comes our turn to help in keeping our little ones warm this winter!

Juli Wilkerson, a former MHKH mentor and her husband, Curt, have graciously offered to sort and make sure the items are presentable. They really, really need your assistance! Especially Thursday from 1:00 – 4:00pm to transform the Elementary Cafeteria into ‘The Burton Boutique’. Clothing is hung on racks and displayed on tables as we offer our Burton families the dignity of choice as they ‘shop’ for warm clothing. The ‘store’ opens at 5:00PM and you can live out your fantasy of being a sales consultant as you assist the kids in making their selection. :)

Please let me know ASAP if you can participate in this huge blessing for our Burton families. souellette@marshill.org

Share the blessing!

Three Questions Mentors Ask Most Often…..
Posted on 11/8/2010

1. What do I do if my child has a hard time paying attention?

2. What do I do if my child has frequent temper tantrums?

3. What can I do to help my child who struggles with learning?
