Mars Hill is committed to investing in emerging leaders who desire to live into the gospel narrative through their vocational calling. And while there are many ways in which you can partner with Mars Hill through volunteer and leadership activities, those desiring to make a more concentrated investment in ministry will find the intern or resident role a great fit. Through internship and residency opportunities, we offer roles to help you explore ministry in a church context, while pastoral mentors teach you the skills to move forward in your career and calling.

Job descriptions and applications for the August 2012-May 2013 term are now available below. Please review the qualifications, expectations, and intended outcomes for each role to help you discern if an internship or residency here would be a good fit.
Internships are typically for college-age students and require approximately 12 hours per week. Residencies are generally for those who are post-college and interested in ministry as a profession. These require approximately 18 hours per week.

Mars Hill Kids
An Internship in Mars Hill Kids [newborns-4th grade] offers valuable experience in collaborative ministry planning. You’ll be a part of all the behind-the-scenes work that goes into creating and managing weekly ministry gatherings and events within the context of an intentional, pastoral volunteer structure.
Special Needs Intern
The MHK Special Needs Intern will assist in the development and implementation of the Special Needs program under the leadership of the Kids Ministry Special Needs Coordinator. The intern will gain experience in preparing curriculum materials, caring for volunteers, and coordinating ministry events.

Mars Hill Kids Operations Intern
The MHK Operations Intern will assist in the mid-week development of Mars Hill Kids programs and volunteer structures through the organization of ministry data, volunteer communication, and event planning. This role offers valuable experience in preparing curriculum materials, caring for volunteers, and coordinating ministry events.

Mars Hill Kids Programming Intern
The MHK Programming Intern will assist in the development and implementation of Mars Hill Kids programs through the creation of curriculum materials, designing of sets and props, and Sunday morning production needs.

Mars Hill Students
Working with Mars Hill Students [5th-12th grade] means gaining valuable experience in collaborative ministry planning. You’ll be a part of all the behind-the-scenes work that goes into creating and managing weekly, high-energy, age-appropriate programming within the context of an intentional, pastoral volunteer structure. Whether you’re working with Middle School or High School students, you’ll experience ministry where deep theological commitment meets the newest developmental research, and gain perspective on how to create and lead authentic team-based ministry.
MHS Film and Media Intern
As an MHS Film and Media intern you’ll use your skills and creativity in multimedia formats to help students find connection with and meaning in the biblical narrative. Throughout the internship, film and media interns will work closely with the programming teams to deliver consistent, quality messaging.

MHS Teaching and Pastoral Intern/Resident
MHS Teaching and Pastoral Interns and Residents write, teach, and implement curriculum in a team-based environment. These roles require a desire to learn, study, teach, and preach through a variety of methods and in multiple environments in order to encourage and challenge students to discover who God made them to be and how he’s calling them to live.
Teaching and Pastoral Interns will play a significant part in writing and designing curriculum, with a few opportunities to teach.

MHS Group Life Intern/Resident
MHS Group Life Interns/Residents create contexts and environments of belonging and safety for teens as they search to discover who God made them to be. In a ministry with hundreds of students, these interns and residents will use their relational and organization skills to create a sense of community for every student.
Group Life Interns will take part in the organizational role that makes certain that every student has a small group and that small group leaders have everything they need to disciple their students.

MHS Program Intern/Resident
MHS Program Interns and Residents plan and execute events and programs in order to provide students with meaningful experiences. Creativity, collaboration, technological know-how, and sensitivity to youth culture are needed for designing weekly experiences in which students will connect with each other, their small group leaders, and God’s story of redemption.
Program Interns will experience our fast-paced and high-energy environment, gaining computer skills and a knowledge of A/V equipment.

MHS Worship Intern/Resident
MHS Worship Interns/Residents lead worship for the student ministries, through both music and non-music experiences. Through creating intentional opportunities for students to be aware of and respond to God’s constant presence, they support the goal and mission of Student ministries.
Worship Interns/Residents will also have the opportunity to work with program and curriculum teams to design weekly programs, as well as receive mentorship from experienced worship leaders. This role requires a passion for worship, creativity, and music, along with an interest in learning more about music theory and leadership in worship.

Residencies with the Community Life and Young Adults ministries provide unique opportunities to gain pastoral experience in leading, mentoring, small group philosophy, and community care. This is done alongside a veteran team of pastors who will invite you into their experiences and offer you opportunities to serve and grow in your own ministry calling.
Young Adults Resident—Connection + Formation
The Young Adults Ministry offers unique opportunities to participate in developing and implementing formational opportunities for college students and young professionals. As an integral part of the team, Young Adult Residents will be given the space to develop a greater understanding of the philosophical approach, concepts, and strategies utilized at Mars Hill to foster and cultivate spaces where young adults can live deeply with one another and the broader adult community.
This role offers Residents the opportunity to assist in providing leadership to small groups, pastoral care to the young adult population, and further develop their own skills and practices of facilitating experiences for connection and growth.

The Young Adults Ministry offers unique opportunities to participate in developing formational opportunities for college students and young professionals through engagement with popular culture. As an integral part of the team, Young Adult Residents will be given the space to develop a greater understanding of the philosophical approach, concepts, and strategies utilized at Mars Hill to foster and cultivate spaces where young adults make meaning through thoughtful engagement with film and music.
This role offers Residents the opportunity to assist in the development and implementation of a film and concert series, provide leadership to small groups, offer pastoral care to the young adult population, and further develop their own skills and practices of facilitating experiences for connection and growth.

The Community Life Residency offers the opportunity to gain valuable pastoral experience. As an integral part of the team, Residents will be given the space to develop a greater understanding of the philosophical approach, concepts, and strategies utilized at Mars Hill to foster and cultivate a space for connection and growth.
