Learning Communities
Studying the Bible and viewing the world of ideas through a biblical lens helps us know God and better know who he created us to be. As we come to understand God more deeply, we realize we were made to live for something larger than ourselves.
You're invited to participate in one or more of the following opportunities to study and learn with us on Sunday evenings during Spring 2009. We'll be exploring the Bible and various related themes in a number of different ways. All learning communities stem out of one or more of our Directions [shared values], and all are described below—please note the dates and times, as it will be possible to attend several classes this season, even multiple classes per evening.
Find out more and RSVP for the classes below by emailing info@marshill.org with the following:
- Your name [first and last]
- The name[s] of the learning community/communities you’d like to participate in
- Your phone number

[This class includes weekly homework of readings and handouts.]
How Then Should We Live?: Biblical Decision-Making and Ethical Living In a Relativistic World
Led by Dr. David Stubbs [Professor of Ethics and Theology, Western Theological Seminary]
Times/Dates: 7:10-8:30pm, April 19, 26; May 3
Format: A mix of teaching and class discussion
Direction: Journey
We make decisions each day within a culture that is often counter to the way of Jesus, so how are we as Christians called to live? This class explores what it looks like for us to live and engage decisions from a Christian worldview with the mind of Christ. "Laws and Visions", our first session, will explore the place of biblical laws and commandments as well as biblical visions of the Kingdom of God in Christian ethical thinking. "Character and Community", our second session, will show that Christian ethics is not about simply what we do, but also who we are, both as individuals and as a community. "Parables and Imagination", our third session, will consider how the longer stories and shorter parables of the Bible shape us ethically. During these classes, we'll also consider in particular economic matters and the issues surrounding abortion.
