What’s Your Story?
In Acts, Jesus sends his followers out into the world to bear witness to the ways in which they’ve seen God at work both in their lives and in the world around them. They aren’t asked to be persuasive or compelling. Instead, God simply asks them to go tell the stories of what they’ve seen and experienced. And as they do, incredible things begin to happen. One story leads to another and another—opening up a world of endless possibility.
So what’s your story? How have you seen God at work in your life?

I have seen God in the preaching of Paul, amazing truth.

We must remember that the Bible is clear on homosexuality, condemning him in several passages as Leviticus 18:22 – “Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind: it is abomination ‘-, and Romans 1:26, 27 -’ At God up to dishonorable passions. For even their women exchanged their natural use for what is against nature. And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the recompense which was fitting for their error. ‘”
No one mocks God, Grace and mercy, the Lord loves. Jesus will soon turn.

Maybe I’m the last of a different breed. Maybe I’m the one that wasn’t supposed to get married or have kids. There’s nothing wrong with me. I’m a Child of God. I’m what He wants me to be or maybe my best interpretation of His decision.
I’ve done, seen, sorrowed, met, tried to explain, explained, disappointed, been disappointed, cried, AND CRIED, experienced, loved, lost, rejoined, relived, relov…

This year, I started college. It was quite possibly one of the scariest things I’ve ever done, because, being the perfectionist that I am, I felt the need to constantly prove myself to everyone-to my parents, to my new friends, to my old friends… Trying to prove that I made the right choice.
Over the last year or so, my relationship with Christ has developed into one that is personal and that I consider my own. And within this relationship I have learned that I don’t have to prove myself to Christ, he has already come for me just as I am. I’ve always struggled with some frustrating level of dissatisfaction with myself- I always wish I were prettier, more fun to be around, less awkward, skinnier- but I’m slowly learning that my imperfect self is the one Christ came to save.
So I guess I’m grateful for this new understanding. And I’m so so grateful for the people in my life who also accept for me and I’m of course grateful to mars hill for always reaffirming that I don’t have to prove myself anymore because Christ had already chosen me. Love has already won.
I am most grateful for the dear friends I have made and kept over the years. At low points in my life, they have been there to show me that I am not alone in this world. And, when one of them needs help, it reminds me that I am not the most important person in the world and I go to their aid, no matter how inconvenient it may be at the time. But I think the most important aspect of having loving, life-long friends is that we can enjoy the good times together. We can give thanks in prayer together, and remind ourselves, through our discourses and reminiscences, that the blessings of this life are not to be squandered or taken for granted.
I am grateful for the everyday stuff – I have somewhere to live ; it’s small ,it’s rented – and it’s warm, clean, a clean neighborhood, a little garden, I can walk to the city center. I have food every day; good food, that I choose and cook; I have a car; I have clean cold water on tap; I have hot water on tap; I have flushing toilets and the city has a working sewage system (I have traveled in the 3rd world and I know what not having these things looks like)My husband is still well and his healthcare is free (if we lived in a country where this had to be paid for, he would be dead and I would be destitute). How grateful am I for these things? there aren’t words enough. How great is our God.
I am thankful for the difficulties God has permitted that I live through, whether consequences or not of my own sins, moments in which He reveals to me my follies and idols and provides the means to repent, grow and become each day more and more like my beloved Savior. I am thankful for forgiveness, I am thankful for mercy, for divine patience, for perfect unconditional saving love, and, most of all, I am thankful for my beloved, Christ Jesus.
And I am thankful that God places humble and wise men in our lives to preach the gospel and shepherd us.
I am truly thankful for all that God has blessed me with, and yet, I must admit, there are too many times that I focus too much on me, and the very small things that maybe arent going right.
I am thankful for a powerful loving God who constantly brings me back to prayer, reminding me how lucky I am and to be a blessing to others.I have a loving wife, and three kids, all of whom are healthy.
Each of us has special gifts and tallents that I see working everyday. The result of this powerful active God
I know that God has a a hope and a future for all of them as he has promised.
I feel that faith growing everyday.
Nothing could be better
This past month, 27 children were dedicated at Mars Hill. And while we are a big church, we strive to make our child dedications unique events that honor each child individually. This time was no exception.
Throughout the afternoon families gathered one by one with their loved ones in one of our classrooms to make a covenant with God to raise their child in the way of Jesus. Often the child’s parents will write a letter to their child expressing their desire for them to know God and their promise to raise them in that knowledge. As one family was writing their letter, however, their 4-yr-old son asked to write one too. And so he made his own covenant, promising to protect his baby brother from all the goblins in the woods, among other things. And he wasn’t the only family who had a big brother step up and join them in their dedication. Another very musical family gave their 2-yr-old son a tiny, little guitar and sang 3 songs. It was a beautiful family affair celebrating the uniqueness and creativity that God has poured into our community. We are so thankful for all of these new little members of our community and look forward to journeying with them as they grow.
